Canadian dental care plan

What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The Government of Canada has introduced the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), as part of its objective to make dental care more accessible and affordable for those who might not otherwise be able to afford the care needed to maintain good oral health.

how does it work?

Scheduled to begin covering treatment in May 2024, the CDCP is a publicly funded dental benefit for those with an annual household income under $90,000 and no private dental insurance.

The plan covers a portion of the cost of an enrolled patient's oral health treatments to prevent and treat oral disease which, in turn, can protect against serious health problems.

How Can I Apply for the CDCP?

Application periods are staggered between December 2023 and 2025. As of May 2024, seniors 65+ can apply online or over the phone.

What to Expect

Our team can help you as you navigate the process of becoming part of the CDCP.

Once you receive approval from the CDCP, you will be eligible for routine dental cleanings, fillings, root canal therapy, extractions and dentures. Many other services are eligible, but need to be pre-approved by the CDCP.

Don’t wait to receive the dental treatment you need. Speak with one of our team members to review your coverage details and how to get started on your dental journey.

quick facts about cdcp

  •  Application Processing Time: Approval from Service Canada may take up to 3 months. It's best to apply as soon as possible to avoid delays in receiving your benefits.
  • This is a government program meant to ease financial barriers and assist Canadians with their dental expenses.
  • The level of coverage you receive is based on the adjusted net income of your family. See below for a more detailed breakdown:

co-payments based on adjusted family net income.

  •  Patients will be required to make a co-payment (that is, pay for a portion of their dental care under the CDCP) depending on their adjusted family net income, as follows:
  • No co-payment of the CDCP benefit for those with an adjusted annual family net income under $70,000.
  • A 40 per cent co-payment of the CDCP benefit for those with an adjusted annual family net income between $70,000 and $79,999.
  • A 60 per cent co-payment of the CDCP benefit for those with an adjusted annual family net income between $80,000 and $89,999.
